Nakajima was wrongly penalised

Daisuke Nakajima was incorrectly penalised for overtaking under yellow flags during the third British F3 race at Thruxton last weekend

The Raikkonen Robertson racer was mistaken for a rival car and handed a drive-through penalty for passing Jay Bridger's Litespeed entry at the Club chicane under waved yellows, while marshals worked to retrieve the wrecked cars of Max Snegirev and Adderley Fong, and repair the barriers.

The team questioned the decision during the race and consulted with Litespeed, which confirmed Nakajima had overtaken Bridger at the start of the race. Litespeed later produced on-board footage to prove the Japanese racer was ahead of Bridger at the time of the alleged offence. The timekeepers TSL also concurred with this view.

Raikkonen Robertson team manager Malcolm Swetnam said: "The Race Director can only react to information received. He received a report that the offence had been committed from out on track, but as it turns out the evidence is pretty clear that this was not the case.

"Perhaps the whole drive through scenario needs looking at for the future. Daisuke was understandably distraught after the race and was almost certainly denied a top eight finish. I hope the officials review the events and let their findings be known in due course."

Race director Bernard Cottrell confirmed there would be no further review of the incident.

"Its not appealable," he said. "I had a report from the post, I checked it three times, and they were adamant that it was correct.

"It's not easy because there is no CCTV [at Thruxton] and radios are not great there."
