Le Mans qualifying 1: Klien cleans up
If you thought Nelsinho Piquet had a big advantage in qualifying for the first British F3 Championship race at Oulton Park today, his F3 Euroseries rookie counterpart Christian Klien managed to outdo him at Le Mans in France by taking pole by a massive 0.472s over series leader Ryan Briscoe
Klien lapped his Mucke Motorsport Dallara-Mercedes in 1m31.494s, the Austrian well clear of Briscoe (Prema Dallara-Opel) and Team Rosberg's Nico Rosberg (Dallara-Opel). The session was interrupted by a red flag and some yellow flag periods.
"This session was just perfect," said Klien, who also took pole in Adria in May. "So now I will have to do as well in the race tomorrow as I have today."
Briscoe said: "I am quite happy with second place. But I will have to improve the results tomorrow because Christian is half a second faster than me."
Third placed Rosberg was just a few hundredths faster than Robert Kubica (Prema Dallara-Opel), who was in turn just 0.001s faster than Fabio Carbone (Signature Dallara-Mercedes).
