Lausitz qual 1: Paffett well placed
Former British F3 scholarship class champion Gary Paffett will start Sunday's German Formula 3 race at the Eurospeedway Lausitz from second on the grid. The Team Rosberg driver was 0.331s behind PREMA driver Kousuke Matsuura, and is well placed to consolidate his championship lead
Paffett's championship rival, Frank Diefenbacher, will start third on the grid and will be determined to finish ahead of Paffett to stay in championship contention.
Diefenbacher will line up alongside FIA F3000 championship refugee Jeffrey van Hooydonk and ahead of Bernhard Auinger and Robert Doornbos.
Toyota F1 test driver, Ryan Briscoe, who has stepped down from the FIA F3000 championship Nordic racing team, will line up 17th for his German F3 debut on his first visit to the Eurospeedway.
Briscoe's fellow F1 tester, Marcel Lassee, who is contracted to Jordan, will be disappointed to start on the fringes of the top ten in 11th place as he bids to impress his illustrious employers.
The qualifying session for Saturday's first F3 race takes place tomorrow, and Paffett will be hoping to go one better in his quest for the title.
