JTR's Joe Tandy killed in car crash
British Formula 3 and Formula Ford team boss Joe Tandy died in a car crash yesterday afternoon
The 2005 Formula Palmer Audi champion and team chief of JTR, which runs Mygales in British F3 and FFord, was involved in a road traffic accident at a junction near his Bedfordshire home in Bromham.
The BMW in which the 26-year-old and his fiancee's brother, Luke Temple, were travelling collided with a lorry box van at 12:24pm on Wednesday.
Tandy was pronounced dead at the scene, while the friend was airlifted to Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge, but died of his injuries earlier today.
The lorry driver was taken to South Wing Hospital with minor injuries and the road was closed in both directions for most of the afternoon.
The SRO Motorsports Group, which organises British F3, said Tandy's death would be deeply felt in the paddock.
"Joe's death has left everyone involved with F3 in Britain in a deep state of shock," said SRO general manager Bernadette Fitzsimons.
"He was an extremely popular guy and the paddock will be a poorer place without him and his great sense of humour. He was a credit to his family, his team and to motorsport in general and they have all lost a very fine young man.
"Our thoughts are with Joe's fiancee Sophie, brother Nick and all his family, friends and colleagues."
