Hulkenberg takes Masters victory

The two most important incidents of the race happened right at the start. The first occurred when pole man Romain Grosjean (ASM) stalled on the grid, which resulted in him getting away at the very back of the field and ruled him out of contention.

The other major happening at the beginning of the race was that Franck Mailleux (Manor Motorsport) was judged to have jumped the start.

The decision to give him a drive-through took a long time to come, by which point Mailleux seemed to have second place under control, albeit some way behind Hulkenberg.

With Mailleux out of the way at mid-distance, everyone moved up one place but the order was the same as it had been from the start.

Yann Clairay (Signature) led Jean Karl Vernay (Signature), Brendan Hartley (Mucke), Yelmer Buurman (Manor) and Renger van der Zande (Prema).

This string of drivers drove around in the same order all race, despite being in close proximity to each other. The only change came on the very last lap, when van der Zande and Buurman got a little too close and Buurman spun, dropping to eighth.
