Huertas leads Oulton practice day

Carlos Huertas set the pace in both sessions of pre-race practice ahead of British Formula 3's second round at Oulton Park this Easter weekend

The Colombian third-year Carlin driver set the quickest time of the day in this morning's cooler opening session to beat Double R's Scott Pye to the overall top spot by just under a tenth of a second.

Reigning British Formula Ford champion Pye and T-Sport's Menasheh Idafar repeated their strong form from the official pre-season test here last month to go second and third fastest overall in the morning session, but were only ninth and eighth quickest respectively this afternoon.

Huertas shaded team-mates Rupert Svendsen-Cook, Kevin Magnussen and Felipe Nasr in the afternoon, as the top four were all covered by less than a tenth.

Monza reversed-grid race winner Svendsen-Cook found 0.161s between the morning and afternoon sessions to wind up fourth overall, with Magnussen and championship leader Nasr completing the top six.

Fortec's Lucas Foresti was another to improve between the morning and afternoon running to end up fifth fastest this afternoon and seventh overall, just over a tenth adrift of Nasr and just 0.058s clear of Carlin's Jazeman Jaafar, who crashed heavily after setting the sixth fastest time in the morning session and was eighth quickest later on in a repaired car.

Hitech's Pietro Fantin and Fortec's Harry Tincknell were sixth and seventh fastest respectively this afternoon - enough for them to complete an overall top 10 covered by just over half a second.
