German F3 Cup cars barred from British rounds

German Formula 3 Cup cars running the series' spec Volkswagen Power Engine will no longer be permitted to enter British F3 International Series events

German F3 Cup cars barred from British rounds

The move has been made after John Bryant-Meisner, driving the Performance Racing Dallara that he races in German F3, took two dominant pole positions and two clear race wins in last month's opening British F3 round at Silverstone.

Organisers requested Bryant-Meisner's power boost to be disconnected after qualifying at Silverstone, and then applied extra weight to his car after the opening race.

Although the Swedish driver was running as an Invitation Class entry, and therefore was not taking any points away from FIA-rules cars running in the International Class, British F3 organisers felt it was not in the interests of the series to have a car that runs to a different set of rules winning the races outright.

Peter Briggs, head of British F3 teams group FOTA, said: "The older car has got too much power and too much aero. You can't penalise it enough to make it a viable thing."

AUTOSPORT understands that some preliminary interest in competing in the next British F3 round at Spa had been shown by the Motopark-run Lotus squad, which is dominating German F3 this season.

The team's Marvin Kirchhofer last month set a pole time at Spa that was 3.385 seconds faster than Felix Serralles managed when he topped British F3 qualifying last July.
