Davidson ousts team mate Sato for top slot

Anthony Davidson has topped the times after a rain-lashed day of British Formula 3 testing at Snetterton, ahead of his Carlin Motorsport team mate Takuma Sato

Thursday was the second day of F3 running this week and the Carlin pair swapped positions after Sato was on top at Donington on Tuesday. The result further underlines the hot favourite status of BAR test driver team mates. Sato won four rounds of the championship last year, and his BRDC McLaren Autosport young driver Davidson moves up to F3 from Formula Ford.

The teams were greeted by cold and damp conditions at the Norfolk circuit, which got progressively worse during the day and all competitive times were set during the morning session. The Jaguar Racing Dallara-Mugen Honda of James Courtney snatched third place ahead of Ryan Dalziel for the RC Prost junior team.

Andre Lotterer caused the biggest drama of the day when the second Jaguar Junior driver had a big off at the Riches corner and rolled his Dallara. The German escaped unhurt from the accident, but had to settle for fifth place.

Nicolas Kiesa, who was fastest on the first day of testing at Jarama in Spain last month, finished the day in sixth place while the Manor Motorsport triumvirate of Mark Taylor, Derek Hayes and Jeffrey Jones occupied the seventh, eighth and ninth slots. Atsushi Katsumata rounded out the top ten for Promatecme.

After finishing fourth at Donington earlier in the week, Guernseyman Andy Priaulx, who switches to the Alan Docking Racing squad for 2001, finished a lowly 26th.
