British F3 switches Nurburgring date
The British Formula 3 Championship has switched its Nurburgring race to a July date after losing its original autumn slot at the German Grand Prix venue
British F3 was due to support the Nurburgring 12 Hours on September 9-11, but will now race in Germany during the weekend of the Goodwood Festival of Speed on July 1-3. The championship will share the new Nurburgring date with Formula 2.
Series promoter SRO said the move had been forced on it by 'circumstances beyond its control.'
"We had a confirmed September date at the Nurburgring, but regrettably we were told in late January that organisers had changed and we"d been removed from the event," said SRO general manager Lisa Crampton.
"I'm very pleased to have been able to secure an alternative date at this sought-after venue, which will certainly be a highlight of our season."
The date clash with the Goodwood Festival of Speed will mean the mid-season championship leader will no longer be able to demonstrate an F3 car at the event, which was due to celebrate 60 years of British F3 this summer.
"It's a great shame that we will not be able to showcase the championship at Goodwood and we hope that both teams and drivers can understand it was not a decision made easily," added Crampton.
"We are in discussions to secure an alternative prize for the mid-season championship leader."
