Brands Hatch European F3: Alex Lynn claims maiden win

From pole position, Lynn held off the challenge of championship-leading Prema team-mate Raffaele Marciello at the first corner.

The Italian put the local man under pressure throughout the race, and from before mid-distance the leading pair of Dallara-Mercedes cars had to deal with a host of lapped traffic.

Marciello got very close with eight laps remaining, but Lynn held firm to take his second top-level F3 victory, after winning a British F3 round at Silverstone last season.

The third Prema driver, Lucas Auer, got muscled out by Sven Muller and Felix Rosenqvist in the first couple of corners. But he repassed Rosenqvist's Mucke Motorsport Dallara-Mercedes into Surtees on lap 29 of 51.

Six laps later, a disconsolate Muller coasted his Ma-Con Dallara-Volkswagen to a stop, parking on the grass on the exit of Druids. That meant Auer completed a Prema 1-2-3.

Harry Tincknell was also one to face problems with lapped traffic, the Carlin Dallara-VW getting a chop from Tatiana Calderon, but he managed to just hold off fellow Britons Tom Blomqvist (EuroInternational Dallara-Mercedes), Jordan King (Carlin) and Josh Hill (Fortec Motorsport Dallara-Mercedes) in a close quartet for fifth.

Jann Mardenborough ran among this group but lost some places, starting when King passed him at Paddock. That meant Will Buller's T-Sport Dallara-Nissan and non-registered Carlin runner Daniil Kvyat completed the top 10.

With Kvyat not eligible for points, this gifted the final score to Antonio Giovinazzi, who wriggled his Double R Racing Dallara-Mercedes clear of a tight midfield group.
