Asmer Unfazed by Euro F3 Drivers

British F3 championship leader Marko Asmer is not scared of the competition the rival F3 Euroseries will provide at this weekend's Marlboro Masters of F3 race at Zandvoort, Holland

The all comers trophy race has only been won by F3 Euroseries drivers since the championship's formation in 2003.

Estonian Asmer has a slender lead in the tight British championship despite not winning a race this season. In contrast, Lewis Hamilton and his ASM team have dominated the F3 Euroseries, taking six wins from eight races so far this season.

However Asmer believes that despite ASM's dominance, a British F3 series driver could win this year's event.

Asmer told Autosport-Atlas: "There is not a big difference in performance between the British Championship and the F3 Euroseries.

"We have both have run qualifying sessions at Spa this season and down the grid both championships were very close. I go into every weekend thinking I can win and it is the same here.

"It could be a crazy race, it is always like that when people aren't driving for championship points. If you win you win, but if you finish anywhere else you are a loser.

"You can start anywhere and still win, just like Hamilton did in last year's Bahrain SuperPrix - he qualified 23rd but in the two races he got a good start and there was a lot of mess in front of him."

Of the F3 Euroseries runners, Asmer believes Hamilton's ASM team will provide the biggest threat.

"The ASM race pace is a bit of a concern," Asmer added, "but it is down to the team. Lewis Hamilton and Adrian Sutil have been quick everywhere but last year when Sutil wasn't with ASM he was nowhere. Hamilton is driving well but their speed is down to the team."

Current Formula One drivers David Coulthard, Takuma Sato and Christian Klein are previous winners of the event.
