Boyd completes T-Sport line-up

Reigning British Formula Ford champion Wayne Boyd will graduate to British Formula 3 this season with race-winning squad T-Sport

The 18-year-old Northern Irishman and 2008 McLaren Autosport BRDC Award finalist will partner Formula Renault UK graduate Adriano Buzaid in the team, as they expand to run two cars in championship class F3 for the first time.

Boyd tested extensively with a number of teams, including T-Sport, before the Christmas break, but the Brackley-based squad's deal to run Volkswagen engines in 2009 sealed the deal for Boyd.

"The overall package they were offering and their new deal with VW won the day for me," said Boyd. "They are racers and absolutely focused on winning, which suits me fine."

He is also looking forward to working for team boss Russell Eacott and chief engineer Alan 'Skelly' Woodhead.

"I've been flattered by the number of people who have been interested in me driving for their team, but Russell and Skelly's enthusiasm and eagerness to help me learn really shone through," said Boyd.

"I've got so much to learn in 2009 and I look forward to the future with excitement. I can't wait to get back on the track and try the new VW engine."

Eacott added: "I'm just really happy that Wayne is with us. We've tested him and know his capabilities and his potential. Alan 'Skelly' Woodhead, the team's chief engineer, is also really looking forward to working with Wayne as are the rest of the guys."

VW Motorsport boss Kris Nissen was also pleased to add Boyd to his company's line-up.

"We are delighted to have Wayne Boyd in the Volkswagen line-up for the British Formula 3 championship," said Nissen. "We are sure the Volkswagen Formula 3 engine can give a strong boost to this young talent."
