GP2 Asia calendar taking shape
The calendar for the 2009/10 GP2 Asia Series is taking shape, with four dates confirmed and a fifth still under discussion
A two-day test at Abu Dhabi on October 23/24 will get things underway ahead of the opening round, which will support the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix a week later.
Asian circuits that have featured in previous seasons, such as Sentul and Sepang, have disappeared in an effort to reduce transportation costs. Instead, the third running of the series will take place entirely in the Middle East, with two rounds each at the Yas Marina and Bahrain International circuits.
The final round will support the 2010 Bahrain F1 Grand Prix.
Negotiations are understood to be continuing regarding an extra round in Qatar, which would take place in November, although there has been concern about the additional expense of moving the cars from Abu Dhabi to Qatar and back again.
Dates have also been finalised for the GP2 main series end-of-season tests, with a three-day outing at Jerez scheduled between October 6-8 and another at Paul Ricard on November 10-12.
