Zonta to stay at BAR in 2000
Ricardo Zonta will be racing alongside Jacques Villeneuve again next year
British American Racing's team boss Craig Pollock hinted a month ago the ex-Formula 3000 and sportscar champion would be retained and, as expected, the confirmation came at the European Grand Prix.
'He has done a great job for us this year in sometimes difficult circumstances and I am sure he has learned a lot in the process.'
'From our standpoint the fact that we are retaining our current driver line-up helps to provide the team with useful continuity and stability.'
Zonta has had a rocky season, only finishing in the top 10 once - and that was shortly after returning from a three-race absence after injuring his foot at his home Grand Prix in Brazil in April.
'It has not been an easy year,' said Zonta, 'but then I never expected Formula One would be.
'Despite all the difficulties it has been a very interesting time for me.
'Their commitment convinces me BAR will become a winning team and that I want to be part of it.
It means another piece of the F1 jigsaw for 2000 has fallen into place and the only remaining seats to be filled are at Arrows and Minardi.
