Wurz plays down Friday performance

Williams third driver Alexander Wurz has played down his team's performance in Friday's practice for the San Marino Grand Prix

The British squad, quick but unreliable so far this year, are hoping to bounce back from two disappointing races in Malaysia and Australia and put on a strong performance at Imola.

Their showing today, however, was unimpressive, with Wurz finishing in eighth place while teammates Nico Rosberg and Mark Webber were down in 17th and 19th.

Neither set a time in the morning session and completed just six and ten laps respectively in the afternoon.

Wurz, however, said the team collected enough data to analyse and be competitive tomorrow.

"We completed a busy test programme today, so now we have to sit down and carefully analyse what did what and how it should translate to the race cars," explained Wurz.

"My role is purely to evaluate our options  and I spent all my time conducting long runs, which is why we do not appear higher up in the timing results, but this doesn't worry me at all.

"We just have to pull our whole package together a bit tighter and then we will be competitive."
