Williams: I don't like team-mate aggravations
Sir Frank Williams has dispelled the belief that he and technical chief Patrick Head are happier when there is a big rivalry between its two drivers
Speaking to Autosport.com, the veteran team boss played down the myth that he prefers backbiting and squabbling amongst his driving squad to keep them on their toes.
"I don't really enjoy it, but we just want both our cars to have an equal chance of winning," he said. "If one drops out then the other guy can take the lead, or vice versa. So no, we don't really like to have any potential real aggravations."
Williams added that he doesn't foresee any problems between his new line-up of straight-laced German Ralf Schumacher and fiery Colombian Juan Pablo Montoya, despite numerous media stories to the contrary.
"They haven't caused the problems, but the press think it's a great story, and here we are reviving it again!" he quipped. "I don't think they'll be that difficult. They're serious people. I think they'll be too busy trying to move from fifth to fourth, or fourth to third, to be trying to stab themselves in the back or make life unpleasant for each other."
Sir Frank also acknowledged Benetton boss Flavio Briatore's call yesterday for Michelin to stay loyal to the teams which have taken the plunge with the French rubber manufacturer on its return to F1.
"It's a political matter...But I know what he means," he added. "We do all the work and they take the benefit. But life can be tough, life can be like that sometimes. And if Bridgestone retire, and I hope they don't, the of course what can we do about that?"
