Walkinshaw: Arrows' season starts here

After a difficult start to the season, Arrows boss Tom Walkinshaw has told AUTOSPORT magazine that he is confident his team can start to show its true form in the forthcoming European grands prix

Lead driver Heinz-Harald Frentzen has stated that this year's A23 is a fundamentally good car that just needs honing into a competitive package. However, the team's limited finances, means testing miles have been restricted.

"I think Frentzen was probably right," said Walkinshaw. "Once we get testing we will start to understand the car a lot better. The car has got a lot of downforce and grip; we just need the right set-ups. We can learn to do that with testing. We need more mileage but certainly, in Brazil, we struggled to get the balance."

Arrows' form this season has been dependant on the competitiveness of its Bridgestone tyres. Frentzen qualified an excellent 11th at Sepang, but the orange cars were nowhere next time out in Brazil.

"I think realistically we are between eighth and 12th, and we will bob up and down depending on which way the tyre war is going," adds Walkinshaw. "We know Michelins are good in hot conditions, but having said that Bridgestone is very experienced and I am sure it will bounce back when we get to Europe."

The full interview appears in AUTOSPORT magazine, which is on sale now.
