Trulli disappointed to end on a low

Jarno Trulli says he was disappointed not to have scored points at Suzuka in his final race for Jordan, and confused as to why the Honda-powered team was so slow in Japan

Trulli, who switches over to the Renault-owned Benetton team for next year, finished the Japanese Grand Prix where he started in eighth place. That, allied to the 'no points' showing from team mate Jean Alesi after he crashing out on lap seven (click here for separate story), leaves the Silverstone-based squad stranded in equal fifth place in the constructors' standings with Honda stable mates British American Racing.

"I really wanted to win points for Jordan before leaving and I think we deserved to do so," said Trulli. "But it was a tough race and we were not competitive enough today. I was just not able to go any faster - I don't know why we were so slow.

"I feel really down about finishing the season like this, but I have good memories of my two years at Jordan. These years have been a very important stepping stone in my career."

Team boss Eddie Jordan was equally disappointed with the day's proceedings and was keen to finish the year ahead of BAR.

"There is not a lot to say about today," said Jordan. "I feel for Jean as this was a sad way to end his career. He is very philosophical about it though and has clearly enjoyed the weekend immensely. Jarno deserved better this year with us - he had a particularly unlucky season."

The Irishman is wiping the slate clean on the driver front for 2002 with Japanese hotshoe Takuma Sato and Bentton's Giancarlo Fisichella joining the team.
