Track change 'won't help passing'

Leading figures in Formula 1 reckon that modifications made to the Hungaroring won't make much difference to overtaking in this Sunday's Grand Prix, according to a story in this week's AUTOSPORT Magazine

BAR technical director Geoff Willis and Williams operations engineer Sam Michael both said that a revised first corner and final sequence of bends are unlikely to effect the racing, which is typically processional.

"The big problem in Hungary is that you cannot go off line because it is so dirty," said Willis. "I don't think that the braking area in to Turn 1 has been lengthened enough to make a difference and, although the sequence of turns at the end of the lap is tighter, I don't think that will help anybody."

The modifications include a lengthened pit straight with a tighter corner at each end. The end of the lap is now without the fast chicane that used to damage cars as they routinely drove over the kerbs.
