Toyota Interested in Davidson

Toyota revealed they are looking into the possibility of siging Anthony Davidson for 2003, to drive alongside Frenchman Olivier Panis.

Toyota revealed they are looking into the possibility of siging Anthony Davidson for 2003, to drive alongside Frenchman Olivier Panis.

Davidson put in an impressive performance for Minardi when he replaced Alex Yoong in Hungary two weeks ago, and has done well in practice at the daunting spa circuit this weekend. Subsequently, Toyota boss Ove Andersson said in Spa that Davidson's impressive performances have put him firmly on the team's shopping list.

"We have already spoken to him," Andersson told the Daily Mirror. "He looks very good. We believe (Panis) will give us a valuable input. The other driver should be someone who is young with potential and enthusiasm and Davidson certainly comes into that category."

Davidson is currently on loan to Minardi, but he is under contract with British American Racing. BAR boss David Richards - who revealed Davidson is only contracted to BAR until the end of next year, not the end of 2006 as reported - told Atlas F1 he has not spoken to Toyota and would only discuss Davidson's future when an offer was on the table.
