Thursday Second Free Practice - Monaco GP

World Champion Michael Schumacher achieved the expected on Thursday afternoon as he remained at the top of the times in his Ferrari in the second practice session for Sunday's Monaco Grand Prix.

Schumacher, who could win a record sixth race since the start of the season this weekend, finished with a time of 1:14.741 to put himself comfortably clear of BAR-Honda test driver Anthony Davidson, who was 0.4 seconds back in second.

Brazilian Rubens Barrichello finished third in the second Ferrari with Italian Jarno Trulli fourth in the lead Renault, Finn Kimi Raikkonen fifth for McLaren-Mercedes and Briton Jenson Button sixth in his BAR.

Japan's Takuma Sato ensured all three BARs finished high up the timesheets when he claimed the seventh fastest time ahead of Brazilian Ricardo Zonta, of Toyota, and Spaniard Fernando Alonso, of Renault.

Colombian Juan Pablo Montoya completed the top ten in his Williams-BMW but his time of 1:16.097 put him 1.356 seconds off the pace and he was the first driver to finish more than a second behind Schumacher.

Swede Bjorn Wirdheim became the first driver to strike the notorious Monaco barriers when he slid wide at Tabac as Jaguar's disastrous day continued following Webber's fire in the morning session.

Once again, Anthony Davidson took the early lead and put himself 0.118 seconds ahead of Michael Schumacher when he set a time of 1:16.861, although his lap was still slower than Schumacher's morning best of 1:16.502.

Jarno Trulli moved ahead when he clocked a lap of 1:16.494 to put himself at the top of the timesheets but Barrichello then bettered that by 0.099 seconds with 20 minutes of the session gone.

Davidson suffered a big moment as he locked up his brakes going into Sainte Devote but managed to steer the car away from the barriers and into the escape road before continuing on his way.

Austrian Christian Klien hit the barriers heading into Casino square half way through the session and badly damaged his car and German Nick Heidfeld had a harmless trip up the escape road at Sainte Devote in his Jordan.
