Takuma Sato Q&A

Takuma Sato's first season with Jordan has not been very productive, and the Japanese driver's habit of getting into trouble has not gone down well at a team where every point counts. There's no questioning his commitment, but he has a habit of finding the limit of overstepping it, and damaging a priceless Lotus 49B at Monaco didn't help his reputation. However, at Hockenheim he had a solid run to eighth, a result that was spoiled by the fact that several cars behind him retired and he ended up only one spot from the back. Sato has a contract for 2003, but with Honda likely to leave there is no guarantee that he will be in a yellow car next year. But he still has a bit more time to prove he can get the job done. Adam Cooper spoke to the Japanese driver

"It's the best result so far for me, which is great for the team and great for me. I'm disappointed to be out of the points, but even so it was a very exciting and enjoyable race."

"The first part of the race was quite exciting, up and down really. I overtook a couple of people. The second stint was very, very good, but in the last stint the car lost some stability, so it was a little bit difficult. But I kept going, so that was good. Especially after the problems of the last three days, something good came out. We're stepping up, and the next race my target is to score a point."

"It seems to be everything is getting together. The engine was definitely more powerful, and the car seemed to be working better because there were not many places where you climbed over the kerbs, which is easier for us. The whole package is coming together, and that's why it was the best result so far for me. It's a little bit of a shame that I couldn't score a point, but it was good."

"I think the car was a step-up, and the engine the same, and that's why I was more comfortable, and able to push more. It was a great feeling."

"The weather was brilliant too! It's always nice to have a good finish, especially after having had an exciting race. If I could have scored a point, then even better. But it's important to have a top 10 finish."

"No, I just keep concentrated on myself. I believe in the people who supported me in the team."

"Obviously we have a strong contract with the team, which is great. I hope it's going to be really good for the rest of the season and we can do a better job next year."
