Sunshine and showers at the A1-Ring

If forecasters are to be believed, Sunday's Austrian Grand Prix will be run in bright sunshine and warm temperatures - enhancing the picture-perfect image of the A1-Ring and its environs

But the circuit is situated in the heart of Austria's Styria region and predicting the weather could prove to be a bit of a lottery as the area's mountains are well known for disregarding weather reports and creating their own conditions. So while we can expect the sun to come out on Sunday, don't be too surprised if a few showers hit the track on race day.

The teams' preparations for the race in Spielberg could be hit on Friday if the predicted showers arrive during the timed practice sessions. Michelin had a wet weather test in Valencia last week and the French rubber could well be put to the test again if the showers do materialise.

Cloudy conditions are expected for qualifying on Saturday, and temperatures will be slightly lower than on race day, but once again, those mountains could have their own ideas of what will happen...
