Spyker downplay lack of testing
Spyker F1's technical director James Key has defended his team's decision not to test until their new car for 2007 is ready
Spyker have been the only of the 11 teams who have decided to skip testing last week at Barcelona and for the remainder of 2006 in Jerez.
The team will switch from Toyota to Ferrari engines in 2007, and they have decided against running an interim car before their new challenger is completed.
Key said that since the team were using Bridgestone tyres already last season, things should not be so hard for them.
"We're not going to test before the launch of the new car, simply because the Ferrari engine installation is so different from the Toyota," said Key.
"An interim car would have had to be almost completely new, and doing that while designing the new car would have been quite tricky.
"It would be nice to go out and test, but we're happy getting on with things in the factory and concentrating on the new car, so all our efforts are going in one direction.
"We know Bridgestone, and while the tyres will be very different, it's not like we're coming from Michelin."
