Schuey: risk is part of the attraction
World champion Michael Schumacher has suggested that F1 should discuss "in-depth" the sport's continued participation at the Monaco GP if there are drivers that feel the race is dangerous
The Ferrari star, who is chasing a record sixth Monaco GP win, says that the tight street circuit run around the Principality on the Mediterranean is special and is one of his favourite circuits.
But asked whether he thought there was undue risk involved, given the lack of run-off and the performance of today's F1 cars, Schumacher, who plays a key role in the GPDA, said: "I feel we should discuss this subject in depth. Ever year, Formula 1 asks itself why it races in Monaco and every year it decides to return. Yes, it can be a bit risky, but that is part of the attraction of the circuit.
"Whatever else one thinks about it, the Monaco Grand Prix is just special. Rushing round the track almost touching the barriers not only increases one's motivation but is also a real challenge. The real peculiarity about it is that it is really narrow. There are some parts where you cannot even see the apex of a corner until you are actually on it and that adds to the excitement."
