Schuey Jr 'depressed' by Ferrari victory

Ralf Schumacher admitted that he was left depressed by the manner of Ferrari's crushing win in the San Marino Grand Prix at Imola

Rubens Barrichello's Ferrari recorded fastest lap of the race in 1m24.17s, with race-winner Michael Schumacher managing 1m24.28s. Only one other driver - Ralf Schumacher - managed to break 1m25, with a 1m24.71s best.

"The package we had was good, we had good strategy and good team work but we simply were not strong enough this weekend," Ralf grimaced. "Are we depressed? Certainly. We went to the last two races and should have won them both, but failed to.

"It's never good when someone wins in that manner because we are only two weeks from the next race and there seems to be a lot of work for us, which we cannot do in time. But the season is very long and it's early. Barcelona is next and it might be our testing track but the race hasn't been very good for us in past years.

"It's too early to say what was wrong today. We have never made a secret of the fact that we are lacking a bit on the aerodynamic side but we have to look at improving in all areas."

Williams-BMW and Michelin won at Imola a year ago remember, and the Imola race was one of the worst days that Michelin competitions boss Pierre Dupasquier could remember since the French company returned to the F1 arena last year.

"I'm at a loss to explain it," Dupasquier said. "Our cars performed exactly as we expected them to, it's just that the Ferraris found a lot of extra speed from somewhere."

Michael Schumacher now leads his brother by 14 points in the drivers' championship and Ferrari has retaken the lead from Williams-BMW in the constructors chase by three points.
