Saturday Second Free Practice - San Marino GP

World Champion Michael Schumacher continued his dominant form in Saturday's second practice session at Imola as he finished ahead of Jenson Button once again.

World Champion Michael Schumacher continued his dominant form in Saturday's second practice session at Imola as he finished ahead of Jenson Button once again.

Ferrari driver Schumacher continued his impressive speed from the first session to set a lap time of 1:20.125 around the Enzo and Dino Ferrari circuit despite running only seven laps.

BAR-Honda's Button produced a quick lap late in the session to get within 0.025 seconds of the World Champion, but the rest of the grid remained a distance away from Schumacher's time.

Renault driver Fernando Alonso ended third in the times but was 0.719 seconds adrift, while McLaren's David Coulthard, Williams-BMW's Juan Pablo Montoya and Rubens Barrichello were the only others to be within one second of Schumacher.

Takuma Sato was seventh quickest for BAR-Honda with Renault's Jarno Trulli McLaren's Kimi Raikkonen and Cristiano da Matta, of Toyota, completing the top-ten.

Jordan's Giorgio Pantano pulled off the side of the track at turn eight mid-way through the session after encountering problems and could only complete seven laps.

Coulthard spun at turn 12 - Variante Alta - but was able to continue, while Ralf Schumacher was also caught out at the same chicane, and Zsolt Baumgartner ploughed his Minardi into the barriers at turn 11, minutes from the end of the session.

Jaguar driver Christian Klien took to the track late on after the team worked on his car following the Austrian's accident in the opening session, but he could only go 16th quickest.
