Sato gunning for podium

Takuma Sato is delighted to be back in grand prix racing on a full-time basis, and has pledged to repay BAR's confidence in him by getting onto the podium in 2004

Sato spent a year testing in 2003, but got his chance in the BAR race team in the final round at Suzuka when Jacques Villeneuve walked out. He finished sixth in that race, after a clash with the Ferrari of Michael Schumacher, and said it's good to know that he's back for his first full season since spending 2002 with Jordan.

"I feel very excited about my second full-time year in Formula 1," said Sato. "This is my first opportunity to build on the valuable lessons I learnt in 2002. My personal goal is the same as the team's ambition, so I feel very comfortable that I will be able to play a big part. In reality, a podium finish is my aim and objective."

After a year out of an F1 race seat, Sato is more fired up than ever to make a positive impact in grand prix racing.

"2003 was a very tough season for me as a race driver only testing," he said. "It was frustrating, but I had to look at the big picture for the future. Honda and the team are evolving and developing more. I'm very happy to be a part of team and race, I can't wait for Melbourne. The car looks very good and I think we have every reason to feel positive."
