BAR used a 60cm-wide, airbox-mounted winglet for extra downforce at Imola, something it has done for the previous two seasons.
A new barge board is the second evolution to Sauber's C23. Inspired by that one Ferrari's F2004, it has nonetheless been tested in Sauber's own windtunnel. There is an extra channel (1) shaped into its side, which is accompanied by an increase in the flat bottom of the 'silly plate'.
Further refinements have been made to the aero package of Ferrari's F2004. A carbonfibre wing-shaped cover creating positive lift over the driveshafts and toe-links improves airflow to the upper wing.
Aero upgrades included a higher diffuser and a rear wing with a lower profile than before. This wing featured a vertical window like that introduced by Minardi, easing the inner to outer airflow and increasing efficiency. The endplate was cut into the profile, mounted in such a way as to enhance flexibility.
