Rubens: I've driven better than in 2002

Japanese Grand Prix victor Rubens Barrichello feels that his performance throughout the season has been better than it was in 2002, when he finished second in the championship, taking four victories. The Brazilian finished fourth in this year's drivers' championship, having taken two wins

Barrichello's performance in Japan greatly aided both Ferrari and team-mate Michael Schumacher clinch both drivers' and constructors' crowns. Barrichello reckoned that it was one of his strongest races.

"Along with Silverstone this year (where he also won), there are the two best races of my life," said Barrichello. "All the team, the engineers and mechanics have done a fantastic job to give us a car with such reliability. My race was very tough until the final stages when I could ease up a bit.

"I think I have had a much better year in terms of my performance, compared to last year, when I had more points and was higher in the championship."

Last season, Barrichello benefited from the dominance of the F2003-GA chassis, scoring 77 points, and helping Ferrari walk away with the constructors' title. By contrast, Barrichello scored just 65 points this year.

Barrichello was also quick to join in the praise of his record-breaking team-mate. He said: "You cannot compare drivers from different generations, but what Michael has done today is a fantastic achievement."
