Rubens happy to race with HANS
Rubens Barrichello has said that he is happy to race with the mandatory HANS (Head And Neck Support) device in the Brazilian Grand Prix after gaining dispensation to race without it in Malaysia
That is just as well, considering that following a meeting of the World Motor Sports Council yesterday (Wednesday) the FIA stated that if any driver is unable to wear the HANS device for medical or other reasons, the team concerned will have to replace him.
Barrichello is now using a twin-belt system similar to that employed by McLaren and said in Brazil today: "It is much better, I have no problem with it and I'm comfortable. The main issue for me is that I like to be tight in the car and before, I wasn't."
He added: "I now have a belt under the HANS and one on top and I hope there will be no trouble anymore. Having said that, I still think that the HANS is something that a driver should only have to wear if he wants to."
