Renault Drivers on Top in Friday Test at Indy

The Renault trio of Jarno Trulli, Fernando Alonso and Allan McNish occupied the top three positions in the Friday morning testing session at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway ahead of this weekend's United States Grand Prix.

The now-usual clean sweep for the French team was led by Italian Trulli's time of 1:10.986 but Spaniard Alonso was just one thousandth of a second slower with Scot McNish a further 0.266 seconds back.

The Jaguar pair of Australian Mark Webber and Briton Justin Wilson were fourth and fifth with the under-pressure Wilson trailing his teammate by more than half a second once again.

Jordan driver Ralph Firman completed a successful return to the cockpit at a race weekend following his Hungarian Grand Prix practice crash with seventh place behind teammate Giancarlo Fisichella.

Jordan ran three cars, but F3000 champion Bjorn Wirdheim finished bottom of the pile behind Minardi's three cars of test driver Gianmaria Bruni and race drivers Jos Verstappen and Nicolas Kiesa in eighth, ninth and tenth.

The session was stopped for three minutes when Trulli went off briefly at turn one and marshals came onto the track to patch up what looked like some debris that had come out of the track.
