Renault confident for new package

Jenson Button and Jarno Trulli tested the configuration at the four-day Monza test last week. The mods include new front and rear wings and revisions to the braking system to help deal with the extremes of high speed and slow chicanes at the circuit.

Technical director Mike Gascoyne said: "The new package includes several updates and the testing at Monza last week allowed us to make a thorough evaluation of their performance. The results seem very positive."

Renault heads to Monza just four points ahead of fifth placed constructor Sauber. McLaren is out of reach in third with a 42-point advantage over the French manufacturer.

Trulli lost a certain points finish at the Belgian Grand Prix with an engine failure, while Jenson Button also retired with V10 problems.

"Unreliability is obviously a worry at this stage of the season, and we would undoubtedly have cemented our hold on fourth place in the championship were it not for these problems," said Gascoyne. "While that's disappointing, we must nevertheless look to maintain our level of performance at Monza."
