Relieved Button: win hasn't changed me
Briton Jenson Button says he feels relieved after having scored his maiden Formula One victory at the Hungarian Grand Prix earlier this month
The 26-year-old Honda driver took a weight off his shoulders, finally stepping on the top step of the podium after 113 Grand Prix starts.
Button says the win has not changed him, but he admits he feels a lot less pressure now.
"I am not a different driver but there is definitely less pressure," said Button ahead of this weekend's Turkish Grand Prix. "There has always been that itch I could not scratch. The number of races I had driven and not won is not a concern anymore.
"I have enjoyed the win but we have to move on, and get a car that is quick enough to challenge for wins in the dry. We have still got a lot of work to do to challenge the Renaults, McLarens and Ferraris."
The Honda driver said it took a while for the feeling to sink in.
"When I won the race it was a very emotional moment but I was rushed off because I had to get a flight to China and Tokyo," he added. "But after that I got home and saw all my family and friends. I don't see them that often, and it was such a special occasions.
"I spent all night chatting to everyone and that was when it really hit home, seeing everyone's reaction and emotions to the result."
Despite his happiness, Button reckons his extraordinary win may not be repeated soon in a championship dominated by Renault and Ferrari.
"I don't think our car is as quick as the top three teams at the moment, but we are getting closer and that is our aim," added the Briton. "I love this circuit, it is a circuit I went well at last year.
"I went off circuit in qualifying last year after grinding our in Turn Eight but we will have to see what the pace is."
