Ralf: We should be satisfied with second
Williams driver Ralf Schumacher has said his team should be satisfied with taking second place in the constructors' championship, as that was the goal it set itself at the start of the season
However, the German, who notched up his 100th grand prix start at Suzuka in the season finale, admitted that he and his team had expected to be much closer to the championship-winning Ferrari team.
"Since the second place had been set as our goal for this season, there's no reason for us to be not satisfied," he told the BMW website. "Ferrari's dominating position is, however, a bitter pill as people now wonder whether McLaren was only slightly better than we were."
Schumacher scored Williams' only win of the year, at the Malaysian GP, and is content with his personal performance.
"I've no reason to complain," he said. "All in all the season had its ups and downs. On the one hand I did some mistakes, on the other hand technical problems and the fact that the team did some mistakes prevented me from achieving a better ranking. The duel with my team-mate ended more or less in a draw but, in fact, all that is dwarfed by the huge gap to Ferrari."
