Ralf still plans Hungary return
Ralf Schumacher, present in the BMW Williams pit at Hockenheim, said that he is still hopeful of returning to the cockpit in time for the Hungarian Grand Prix in Budapest on August 15.
"I obviously have to take the advice of the doctors," he said. "I will have more checks to make sure everything is okay, but I want to get back in the car as soon as possible and I will take a decision in a couple of weeks. The team has made me welcome and I want to help them score points."
The summer F1 testing ban means that Schumacher would not be unable undergo a proper test before Hungary, with the 50km pre-race shakedown the only opportunity he would potentially have to drive the car.
Schumacher said that, despite the controversy surrounding his shunt in the US Grand Prix at Indy five weeks ago, he was entirely satisfied with both the rescue procedure after the accident and with his treatment in hospital at Indianapolis.
Williams has now used up its full quota of drivers as permitted by the F1 regulations and, should Schumacher be ruled out of the Hungaroring race, would likely continue with Antonio Pizzonia.
Interestingly, when quizzed on the subject of his Toyota team mate in 2005, Schumacher admitted that Jarno Trulli, recently linked with the team, would be the best option.
"Obviously it will depend on who is on the market," he said. "I have heard Trulli's name mentioned and, if that was possible, it would be the best choice. That would suit me fine."
