12.00 BST: The track is open, no cars are out

12.04 BST: Ricardo Zonta is on track, takes provisional pole with a 1.21.515.

12.07 BST: Pedro Diniz does a 1.21.267.

12.12 BST: Eddie Irvine is getting into his car.

Jean Alesi is on track, he has a bandaged leg after crashing in practice this morning.

12.15 BST: Alesi quickest with a 1.20.216.

12.17 BST: Damon Hill is on track, he is currently faster than Alesi.

Mika Salo is joining the track.

Hill does a 1.19.315.

12.18 BST: David Coulthard does a 1.19.197, taking provisional pole.

Mika Hakkinen is coming out.

12.19 BST: Salo is ninth, Barrichello goes second.

Irvine, Frentzen and Hakkinen are all on quick laps.

12.20 BST: Hakkinen goes a second faster than Coulthard to take pole with a 1.18.156.

Irvine does a 1.18.934, goes second.

Hakkinen is quickest, followed by Irvine, Coulthard and Barrichello.

12.25 BST: Alesi moves up to 10th.

12.29 BST: Olivier Panis, Barrichello and Coulthard are on track.

12.30 BST: Hill goes third.

12.31 BST: Salo locks up rear wheels at Turn six, rejoins after a trip through the gravel trap.

12.32 BST: Coulthard moves up to second, ahead of Irvine with a 1.18.561.

12.34 BST: Irvine takes second back from Coulthard, with a 1.18.380.

1235 BST: Hakkinen on track, doesn't improve on his previous time.

12.37 BST: Wurz is doing his quick run, does a 1.19.226, which puts him seventh.

Fisichella goes fifth - pushing the Austrian down to eighth.

12.39 BST: Hill is on his quick lap, fores sixth with a 1.19.000.

12.44 BST: Salo is on track. He's two seconds off the pace, and goes 18th.

12.47 BST: Coulthard has a go, but remains in third - 0.253s behind team-mate Hakkinen.

12.48 BST: Irvine is on a quick lap.

He improves his time by one-tenth of a second. But remains one-tenth of a second behind Hakkinen.

12.53 BST: Hill is on track. He's doing a very quick lap.

He loses a bit of time, but goes sixth.

12.56 BST: Fisichella goes fourth.

12.58 BST: Salo is back on track, hoping to improve on his 18th position.

He hits traffic, but appears to have a lap left.

12.59 BST: Coulthard is on track and doing a very fast lap.

The Scot stays in third.

13.00 BST: Session over.

Hakkinen is on pole, followed by Irvine, Coulthard. Fisichella, Frentzen and Hill.
