Q & A with Tost and Berger

Franz Tost - Toro Rosso team principal: The progress of his performance wasn't done in the way we expected.

Q. Why did you choose Vettel?

Gerhard Berger - Toro Rosso co-owner: Sebastian has been driving since he was 12 as a Red Bull driver. The last few months and year he's had more experience of F1 with BMW and has shown good performance in racing. So overall, he brought a package to the team which is good for us. He's back in the Red Bull family so it's a logical choice.

Q. A tall order for this weekend?

Berger: There is no pressure at all on Sebastian. He is with us long term and everybody wants to know how he will do in this race - but he's never even tested with us before and we'd have liked to have had him in the car before the race but it doesn't matter because he's long term.

It's important that he develops himself over the next one and a half years into a top driver. And we are going to support him in this. But this weekend he's just going to drive around and do what he can. There's no pressure.

I don't want to spend one more second talking about Scott Speed. That's history. He didn't perform and that's why he isn't here anymore. We want to get quiet in the team - we have a good atmosphere and everything is working well.

Okay, we have difficult circumstances, but overall we are happy with what we are doing. We are trying to do our best.

Q. Did Speed's dismissal have anything to do with argument?

Tost: It has nothing to do with what happened at the Nurburgring. It was done before because we were simply not happy with his performance.

Q. Is Sebastien Bourdais racing for the team next year?

Berger: Nothing to say at this stage. We have been concentrating on Vettel.

Q. Is Vettel confirmed for next year?

Berger: Yes.

Q. Is Tonio Liuzzi under pressure too?

Berger: Scott is always going on about pressure - but this is F1 and everybody's under pressure. This is a competitive business and you either deliver or you don't - and that's not comfortable. And Tonio also has to deliver - but he still has chances to deliver. I really hope for him that he works well with Sebastian.

I've known about Vettel for a very long time. Michael Schumacher once told me to look out for this guy called Vettel in go karts. 'He's very, very good,' said Michael. Sebastian was 12 years old at the time.

Q. Will Scott remain as a Red Bull driver?

Berger: Scott may still be used for testing, we don't know yet. It's a possibility - he's still a test driver here.

Q. Will a new face help the team move forwards?

Berger: Recently, we didn't have a good atmosphere here, you know? And I'm not saying it's Scott's fault or our fault. It just didn't work out - and the only solution was to stop it.

Why hurt each other? If it doesn't work out. And we are very happy with Sebastian and we want to have a good relationship, no problem.
