Point an 'enormous lift' for Spyker
Spyker technical chief Mike Gascoyne believes the team's maiden world championship point will provide a great 'lift' for them
Adrian Sutil was handed eighth place in the Japanese Grand Prix after Vitantonio Liuzzi was penalized for overtaking him under yellow flags. That decision has been appealed by Scuderia Toro Rosso.
But Gascoyne is under no illusions about the benefits of the points, which comes in just the third race for his new B-spec car.
"It is an enormous lift for the team," Gascoyne told autosport.com. "It has been a very, very difficult year and I think with the sale of the team now, new owners, real investment and to cap it off and get a point, that is just great.
"Financially if we can hang onto ninth in the championship then that is significant in terms of the money we get. There are also sponsors with whom we have quite considerable points bonuses, so it helps us with our budget for next year."
Gascoyne would not reveal exactly how much of a boost the championship point could be, but it is likely to be in several millions of dollars.
He added: "I would say it is well deserved. For the boys, everyone has put a lot of effort in. It is a grinding year when you are at the back so to have done the B-spec car, and in the third race get a point, it couldn't be better."
