Pizzonia targets Spa podium

Antonio Pizzonia has targeted a podium finish at Spa, his favourite circuit, as he attempts to boost his claims for a race seat in 2005

"I'm very confident that we are going to have a good result here," the Brazilian said. "I want to be on the podium here and I think we can do it. It's a good track for Williams, I've always had good results here and I know the track well."

With Ralf Schumacher due to test at Monza next week before making a decision about his participation in the Italian Grand Prix (Click HERE for separate story) Spa could be Pizzonia's last chance to impress.

"I want to be racing again next year, for sure," he said. "And I want to race for a good team. If I had to race for a small team, I'd rather be testing. There's not many seats left but we are talking to a few teams. At the moment I'm only concentrating on the race here and if I have a good result things can change a little bit."

Pizzonia has matched or bettered Juan Pablo Montoya's pace in free practice but admits to taking time to readjust to racing.

"At Hockenheim I struggled a bit, especially at the beginning of the race when everything was quicker than I expected. The first lap is always quick, with a lot going on and it takes a bit of getting used to. Hopefully here will be better."

Pizzonia also thinks that Williams can benefit from his good understanding with Montoya: "We get on really well, we always did and we still do. I'm sure my relationship with him is better than his relationship with Ralf and that's good for the team."

The Brazilian explained that he will go to Monza next week as a spare driver with the intention that Montoya and Schumacher will conduct the test. If he is called upon to drive, it will be a strong indicator that he will continue to race alongside Montoya for the Italian Grand Prix at least.
