Pizzonia in for German GP

Antonio Pizzonia has been drafted in to the BMW WilliamsF1 Team race squad to stand in for the injured Ralf Schumacher at the German Grand Prix next weekend. The Brazilian replaces fellow Williams test driver Marc Gene who failed to impress when he raced the car in France and Britain

Pizzonia joined Williams at the beginning of the season as a test driver after losing his race-seat at Jaguar to Justin Wilson halfway through the 2003 season.

"I am very happy to have been given this opportunity," said the Brazilian. "I will do my best to assist the team in scoring some points. My total concentration is now on the forthcoming race weekend, and I have a clear preparation plan prior to Hockenheim."

Pizzonia has been testing at Jerez in Spain this week and yesterday (Thursday)was fastest overall, half a second quicker than world champion Michael Schumacher and over a second faster than Gene.

It's been a whole season now since Williams last won a grand prix, when Juan Pablo Montoya was victorious at Hockenheim, and he is hoping for a good result next weekend: "It would be a great boost for the team, and but we know that it won't be easy because our competitors are more aggressive than ever.

"Nevertheless," he continued, "we have always performed well at this track and that gives us more confidence."
