Pizzonia deserved more time, says Stewart
Former F1 team owner Jackie Stewart has said that Jaguar Racing should have given its former race driver Antonio Pizzonia more time to prove his worth in grand prix racing
Pizzonia was fired by Jaguar on Monday to make way for Britain's Justin Wilson, but three-time drivers' champion Stewart, who is an advisor to the Jaguar team, thinks he should have been given more chances to show what he could do.
"He was progressing," Stewart told autosport.com. "Personally, I would have given him more time. He has had a lot of difficulties with qualifying, the one-lap specials, but then so has David Coulthard and so did Michael Schumacher last weekend."
Pizzonia failed to score a point for Jaguar this season, but did outqualify his highly-rated team-mate Mark Webber in the British Grand Prix at Silverstone last weekend, the third time he has done so this season. The Brazilian was offered a reserve and test role with the Milton Keynes-based squad, but has turned this down.
