Piquet pleased with first Renault test

Nelson Piquet Jr. was pleased with his first full test for the Renault F1 team at Silverstone this week, the GP2 runner-up saying it was a good learning experience

Piquet, who earlier this month was appointed Renault's official test driver for the 2007 season, had a three-day test at the Northampton circuit, setting impressive times and racking up over 220 laps in the R26.

He set the fastest time on the second and third day of testing, and ended up third fastest overall in the week - behind teammate Heikki Kovalainen and soon-to-be-teammate Ricardo Zonta.

"I learnt a lot, and I still have a lot of learning to do, but it has been a good test," Piquet told autosport.com at the end of yesterday's session.

The Brazilian had less than ideal circumstances, however, as his seating was not positioned properly. But he was confident the issue will be resolved soon and said it did not detract from the experience.

"I think the seat will be rectified before the next test, but it definitely was a good start," Piquet added. "I did some tyre testing as well as my own programme, so I am quite happy with that."
