No word on Arrows drivers

Against all expectations, the Orange-backed outfit has announced that a buy-out involving an "American investor" is close to completion, allowing it to race this weekend.

But the team is keeping quiet on who will be driving the pair of A23s.

Renault test driver Fernando Alonso was tipped to drive at the Hungarian GP two weeks ago before it was decided that Arrows would not travel to the Hungaroring. The Spaniard could use the last four GPs of the season as a warm-up for next season when he will step up to Renault's race team.

Another who could be behind the wheel this weekend is Heinz-Harald Frentzen. The German has signed for Sauber for next year, but might still choose to see out the season with his former team.

Others who could be in line include Jos Verstappen and Sebastien Bourdais. Verstappen is involved in a legal dispute with Arrows over his dismissal before the start of the season, but has still been suggested as an option by some insiders.

Bourdais impressed the team in a test earlier in the season. But the Frenchman is unlikely to forsake his chance of winning the Formula 3000 International Championship title to make a last-minute F1 debut. With two F3000 rounds to go, including one at Spa, Bourdais lies just two points behind series leader Tomas Enge.

An outside possibility could be Tomas Scheckter. The son of 1979 world champion Jody Scheckter has just split with his Indy Racing League team Cheever Racing. Like Arrows, Cheever has backing from energy drink Red Bull...
