No way to halt invaders, says marshal

The marshal who dealt with the British Grand Prix track invader believes there is no way to stop a similar incident from happening again

In an exclusive report in today's Motorsport News, Stephen Green has backed Silverstone's safety record and says there is no way that tracks can ensure it does not happen again. Green tackled the track invader during the British GP, and ensured that he was not hit by any of the cars.

"There is no way anybody can legislate for the sort of event that happened at Silverstone, even if you made the racetracks resemble Fort Knox," he said. "And there are not many alternatives available to race organisers.

"The marshals were on site and professional and we knew we had to get the guy off the track quickly. We dealt with the matter efficiently, calmly and with our minds always focused on safety."

Jaguar Racing ace Mark Webber has reacted with disbelief at comments made by Hungarian GP race director Laszlo Palik's that a similar occurrence "would not be allowed to happen in Hungary".

Webber said: "The guys in Budapest have made those claims but that's absolutely perfect medicine for somebody to prove them wrong."
