News round-up

The Grand Prix teams are busy building their new cars to be ready for testing when the winter ban ends in January. Here is a round-up of what is going on

The team will travel to the Valencia circuit in Spain next week to film TV commercials with drivers Ralf Schumacher and Juan Pablo Montoya. The pair will then travel to Austria for BMW's end-of-year party.

The new R202 chassis is coming together in the team's British factory and will be ready in time for the January launch. Technical director Mike Gascoyne said: "We will probably have just one new chassis available for the unveiling, plus another one hopefully ready to be out testing at the same time. Last month, test driver Fernando Alonso did a three-lap demonstration at Estoril for a Renault Sport weekend.

If the team makes it on to the grid for the Australian Grand Prix, this year's AP04 chassis will be used. It will be fitted with an evolution of the 2000 Ferrari V10 engine. But Prost is facing a race against time to raise a budget, after the company called in the receivers last week.

The team's first race car is close to completion in the Cologne factory and will be ready for official photographs in around 10 days. The team will launch the car on December 17.

World champion Michael Schumacher will return to Fiorano on December 15 to attend the team's Christmas dinner. He will also have the opportunity to view a mock-up of the 2002 car. New test driver Luciano Burti will have a seat fitting.
