New Toro Rosso expected in late January

The new Toro Rosso-Ferrari car will not be running until the end of January, according to Italian driver Vitantonio Liuzzi

Toro Rosso will switch to Ferrari V8 power units next season, but the Italian squad have been testing this week at Barcelona with the Cosworth V10 engine used during the 2006 season.

They will continue to run with the old unit for some time, however, as Liuzzi reckons the new STR2 will not be ready at least until the end of next month.

Nonetheless, the Italian is upbeat about the prospect of using the Ferrari engines in 2007.

"It is not possible at the moment to confirm a precise date but we expect the new car and the new engine to be ready at the end of January," Liuzzi told the Formula One's official website.

"The expectations are high," the Italian added. "The name Ferrari is a guarantee of success and it would be a huge satisfaction to see an Italian team, with an Italian car powered by an Italian engine, making a big step forward together.

"The marriage of Toro Rosso-Ferrari revitalizes our competitive spirit."

Toro Rosso scored one point during the 2006 season, finishing in ninth place in the constructors' championship.
