New Rules Could Benefit Ferrari, Warns Brawn

Ferrari technical director Ross Brawn has warned their rivals that the Italian squad could gain a bigger advantage despite regulations changes planned for next season.

Formula One's governing body, the FIA, plan to introduce radical measures to slow cars down next year and also to reduce costs and improve the show, which has been monopolised by Ferrari, winners of 12 out of 13 races so far this season.

"Undoubtedly it would be better for us if things stayed as they are, but the cars are becoming too fast so it's right to intervene to slow them down," Briton Brawn was quoted as saying by Italy's Gazzetta dello Sport newspaper.

"But I like thinking that we have the right people to transform this situation from a possible problem to an opportunity to gain further advantage."

With Michael Schumacher's victory at last Sunday's Hungarian Grand Prix, the Maranello squad clinched their sixth consecutive constructors' title, an unprecedented feat which Brawn said was the result of their hard work during the winter.

"We knew from the beginning of the season we had an excellent car," Brawn added. "In fact I could say that even before starting winter testing, because the team made an exceptional effort during the winter.

"After that, even if the results were positive from the start, we never dropped our guard."

The Briton also praised the team's tyre supplier for their work.

"We must not underestimate the great job done by Bridgestone," he said. "Together we doubled the effort, increasing the number of technicians working on the tyre program. The result can be seen by everyone."
