Nakajima: New wet tyre needs work
Bridgestone's new wet weather tyre will need plenty of improvement work before it is ready to be introduced into Formula One, claims Williams driver Kazuki Nakajima
The new tyre, which is being considered as a potential single replacement for the current wet and extreme types, was tested for the first time at Jerez in Spain last week.
Nakajima was one of a few drivers who tried out the new wet tyre, although it is understood that he was the only one to complete more than a single installation lap with it.
Although the tyre is only a work-in-progress type, Nakajima thinks there is a lot of development needed before it could even be considered for a full-time introduction into F1.
"I don't know if I was the only one to test it but it was very, very difficult to drive, to say the least," Nakajima told . "It was like driving on a ice-skating rink.
"It is the first generation one and I think we need to do a lot of work there. To drive offline with it was impossible."
Bridgestone itself has said it would prefer to continue with the current practice of using two types of wet rubber and has prepared the single specification only after a request from the teams.
