Montoya feels he's due some luck

Juan Pablo Montoya is determined to come away from this weekend's European GP with a healthy haul of points after retiring from the previous two races. The Colombian finished in the points in all of the first six rounds to put himself in second place in the drivers' championship, but despite taking pole position in Monaco and Canada he failed to make it to the flag and now lies 43 points behind Michael Schumacher in the standings

At last year's Nurburgring race, Williams and Montoya were highly competitive and he set the fastest lap on route to second place. After testing at Jerez last week, the team is confident that it has a handle on its reliability problems and Montoya is desperate to be in with a shout of taking his first win of the season this weekend.

"I feel like some recompense is due for the last two races, where I was denied from picking up a good handful of points," he admitted. "The team has been working hard to address the problems we had and therefore I hope the Nurburgring track will be able to reward our efforts."

Ralf Schumacher lost a potential win at last year's European GP when he was penalised for running over the white line on the pitlane exit. He started the 2002 brightly with victory in Malaysia, but in recent races he has been overshadowed by his team-mate, something he wants to rectify in front of his home crowd on Sunday.

"After the last couple of races we as a team need to show how good we really are," he said. "We are clearly the second strongest team so far this season, but we just need to prove this at every race. If we focus on our work, good results will return and we may possibly be able challenge Ferrari as well."
